What affects the cost and timing of an AML review?

Compare scope, complexity and readiness before comparing review proposals. A lower quote may describe a different engagement.

Start with what is being reviewed

An AML review is not a single standardized purchase. A narrow readiness assessment, a review of a particular process and an independent review of a broader program can require different work. Before comparing proposals, confirm the purpose, the period covered, the expected report and who needs to rely on it.

Complexity matters more than the company label

Two startups with similar headcounts may have very different operating models. Products, customer types, locations, third parties and the information available can change the work involved. A company adding a new product may also need to explain how responsibilities have changed. Calling both companies fintechs does not make their review scopes comparable.

Information availability affects the schedule

If the business cannot readily locate records or identify who can explain a process, the review may involve additional coordination. That is different from having a complex but well-understood operation. A realistic timetable should account for staff availability, access arrangements and the time needed to answer follow-up questions. Avoid treating the report date as the only milestone.

Compare like with like

In a hypothetical comparison, one proposal covers a limited gap assessment while another includes an independent evaluation of operating effectiveness. The difference in price does not establish which provider is better. Ask what each engagement includes, how limitations are reported and whether follow-up support is included or separately scoped. Independence also needs consideration when an adviser has designed or operated the program.

Discuss the decision before asking for a quote

Explain the business model, the reason for the review and any deadline or prior finding that affects the work. A responsible proposal should distinguish confirmed scope from assumptions. Blue Aries Ventures agrees scope, deliverables, timing and fees before an engagement. We do not publish a universal price because it could imply that unlike businesses need the same work.
