Your AML review found problems. What happens next?

Turn findings into accountable business decisions, with clear priorities, evidence of change and realistic follow-up.

Understand what the finding actually says

An AML review finding may concern the design of a process, how consistently it operates, or whether the business can demonstrate that it operates. Those are different issues. A missing record does not always prove that an action never happened, but it can prevent management or a reviewer from confirming what happened. Before assigning work, clarify the affected activity, the evidence behind the finding and the limits of the review.

Prioritize the risk, not the easiest task

A short policy edit may be simpler to finish than a recurring operational weakness. Completing the easy item first does not necessarily reduce the most significant exposure. Leadership needs to understand the potential impact, whether the issue is continuing and whether a temporary safeguard is needed while a lasting response is developed. Any externally imposed deadline or reporting expectation should be identified explicitly, rather than assumed from a generic remediation timetable.

Assign ownership that crosses departments

Some findings sit between product, operations, compliance and engineering. Naming compliance as the owner of everything can leave the person responsible without authority to change the underlying system. Each response needs someone accountable for delivery, access to the people who can make the change and a way to raise dependencies. FinCEN’s MSB guidance calls for tracking deficiencies and documenting corrective actions; a list of intentions alone does not show that the problem has been addressed.

Distinguish completion from effectiveness

Consider a hypothetical finding about incomplete onboarding reviews. Updating the written procedure is one action. Confirming that staff understand it and that the revised process is being followed addresses a different question.

Closing the task because the document was uploaded may leave the original weakness unresolved. The evidence needed to support closure should fit the finding, and the appropriate person should evaluate whether the response works. Avoid treating a completed project tracker as an independent assurance report.

Bring in the right kind of support

A business may need help interpreting findings, coordinating changes or providing recurring AML and KYC capacity. Those needs differ from a new independent review. Blue Aries Ventures can support an agreed remediation scope and management follow-through.

We clarify any independence constraints and specialist needs before work begins. Start the conversation with the nature of the issue and the business context, without sending sensitive customer records through the public inquiry form.
